Isn't it lucky you did not turn out to be the next homicidal dictator?

Just amazed at the audacity of some anti-abortion or anti-choice groups in the United States, who bought a 30-second time slot to advertise how wrong women are to have an abortion, especially if advised to do so for health reasons.

Aparently a woman gave birth to a good athlete after she ignored advice to have a 5th child when she fell ill during her pregancy. The message is that you too could carry the next big thing in some minor sports, who won't be changing the world for better or worse: he just plays sports.

However, the chances of a mother to be, to be carrying a foetus that may grow up and turn out to be a murdering maniac should also not be ignored. If you knew in advance, things would be easy. But you don't. Each person has to guess at what the future may hold. But to have a child, based on how it may turn out seems to be the most ill-advised advice I have ever come across.

As someone who feels that people have the right to choose to have children or not, having a child because of who they might be is just not fair on the child. It would be far better to not have children than to make them feel unwanted because they do not turn out the way you wanted or hoped. Hopefully people who are having babies have a more open mind and better reasons to have babies.

... I can't think of any myself.
But I would not presume to tell people not to have a baby if they have thought about it and feel it is what they should do. In return, would it be too much to ask that those who have abortions for reasons they feel are right are not shamed into regret and guilt about their own choice? Just as people who decide to keep a child with a disability, known before birth, should not be made to feel guilty or stupid.
My own reasons for not wanting kids are my own. Overpopulation and the overal stupidity of the world the kids will grow up in are good enough reasons for me. Some more optimistic people may feel different, but for the kids' sake I hope somewhere in the reasons there will be a mention of love, fun and happiness. And not just fear, shame and social pressure to conform to the standards of others. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and choice, without eradicating other opinions to take away free choice.

Hmpf.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, there's still plenty of time.

You can still turn your life around, Dae. If you really want to be a homicidal dictator, start with Five, and move onto the people you know, your family and friends, and keep ever widening your circle of fear. I believe in you.

I agree with your blog too - that is an awful theme to an anti abortion campaign. And awful to suggest that the only reason that child's life was worth anything is because they become a sports star. All children are valuable when they are born into a family that wants it, and will give it the right environment. If a child isn't wanted, it shouldn't be born. It's not fair on the child or the mother.

I would have no moral qualms about getting myself to an abortion clinic should I need one. And anyone stupid enough to think they had any right to say whether my decision was right or wrong would be called rude words and shouted at in an agressive manner.
